Choosing LC vs MPO
Compare duplex and parallel-fiber connector strategies.
Overview
LC is commonly used for duplex optical links. MPO supports multiple fibers in one connector and is common in parallel optics and structured breakout systems.
Key planning checks
- Confirm connector type on the optic—not only on the patch panel.
- For MPO, verify fiber count, polarity, keying and APC or UPC requirements.
- Account for cassettes and intermediate connections in the loss budget.
- Plan cleaning and inspection procedures appropriate to the connector.
NRCube review note
Keep the unknowns visible
Do not use an MPO-to-LC harness unless the optic and topology are designed for that conversion.
