Selecting the Correct Form Factor
Understand SFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD, QSFP112, OSFP and CFP2 physical interfaces.
Overview
A form factor defines the physical and electrical module interface. It does not by itself define speed, optical technology, reach or connector.
Key planning checks
- Read the platform port specification before selecting the module shell.
- Do not assume similarly sized form factors are mechanically interchangeable.
- Check cage, thermal and power-class limits at higher speeds.
- Use adapters only where the host and intended module combination are explicitly supported.

Keep the unknowns visible
Confirm the exact port type and supported module generations on the deployed hardware.
